Winter Ball 2017
As the 2017 Winter Ball comes to a close, most will look back on it as a night of festivity and enjoyment; others sincere regret. But no matter your personal outcome, it can be said that this year’s Winter Ball has been both surprisingly successful and entertaining. Almost all the tickets for the event were sold out within the first week of availability and on top of this was a fairly hefty waiting list for those in despiration to attend, clinging on to the chance of being able to obtain (what can only be compared to) a golden ticket.
The Pavilion opened its doors for the partygoers at 7pm sharp, which saw a meagre trickle of people wafting their way onto the dance floor until the main bulk arrived at around 7.30pm. After 9pm, the doors were shut and admittance was no longer permitted – those who chose to leave would not be returning (with fair warning). Later on in the evening saw what was described by one student as a “tumultuous rave” leading to a moshpit taking place right on the ballroom dance floor. An after comment from Mrs. Issott (one of the many staff on alcohol-patrol, I mean, supervision duties that night) described her longing to join this bundle of people, and her pain as she refrained from letting her youthful urges get the better of her.
Throughout the night people took selective pickings from the buffet table at the rear of the room, however it was noted that unlike previous years there was never a moment where everyone assumed a sedentary position, much to the despair of the staff who were supervising that night.
Eventually the event came to a close at 11pm by the dreadful brightness of the lights being flicked on, leading to partygoers abandoning the Pavilion and taking up their next task. For many this was to see the latest installment of Star Wars, screening at the Odeon at 3.30am the next morning in the relatively close BH2 Leisure Complex, and then arriving to school later that day with bags in their eyes and mildly aggrevated body language.
Intense planning preceded the ball, taking a plethora of weeks, and it is thanks to staff like Mrs. Brunet and Mrs. Ryan that saw the smooth outcome of the night, and huge thanks are given to them as a result. Huge appreciation is also given to the staff supervising, which included the Senior Leadership Team, Mr. Cook, Mrs. O’Connell, Mrs. Issott and Mrs. Castle.
Photos were taken throughout the evening and there are two albums available that can be found at the links below:
