2017-18 Senior Prefects Announced
Hushed murmurs were heard throughout the Hall today as students filed in for Senior Assembly, speculating who would be appointed as the House Captains, Deputy School Captain and Head Boy for 2017-18. The incumbent team had already laid seeds among fellow sixth formers that the decisions were controversial, and might come a surprise.
As Dr. Lewis sailed towards the stage, with the Upper Sixth Senior Prefects in his gown’s wake for the last time, all fell silent. The Head Boy was seen to shake hands with his team, no doubt thanking them for the work they had done for both their Houses and the School since this time last year. After a brief address commiserating the unsuccessful candidates, and encouraging us all to “seize the day”, the Headmaster announced the appointments.
First were the House Captains: Matthew Lane for Darwin, Tom Patmore for Elgar, Max Edwards for Newton, Lucy Taylor for Scott and James Alder for Turner.
Next were the Deputy School Captains: Emily Elviss (Newton), Catherine Jordan (Scott) and Charlie Hill (Turner).
Finally, the School Captain: Tim Georges (Elgar).
The selection process included a student and staff vote, a Dragon’s Den Task (this year’s being on the theme of tackling Bullying within School) and recommendations from the current Senior Prefects.
We were all surprised, but nevertheless welcoming, to see three girls appointed as Senior Prefects. This begs the question: could Bournemouth School witness a girl Head Boy?
