Darwin fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust
The school learned recently that former student Ben Cull, who signed a professional football contract with Southampton last year, is currently receiving treatment for cancer. Darwin House therefore decided that it would be right to support the Teenage Cancer Trust for this year’s house charity week.
It is important that students bring in cash to support the charity, as lanyards cannot be used for this event.
Darwin will be running a raffle throughout the week, tickets will be available in the foyer at only £1 a strip starting this Thursday (26th), with the chance to win signed Southampton FC merchandise, free nights out at restaurants and plenty of chocolate goodies, amongst other prizes. The draw will take place on Friday lunchtime (3rd February), after which prizes will be distributed.
On Tuesday 31st, school rules will be broken to allow the ever-popular cake sale to take place in the Old Gym at breaktime. The house would like as many cake donations as possible, homemade or shop bought, so bake or buy, and bring to the house office on Monday or Tuesday.
Cakes and more will be available to buy from 20p on the day.
On Friday, the Year 7-8 disco, run with BSG’s Parks House, will be taking place in the Hall from 7-10pm, with tickets just £3.50. Sweets will be available to purchase on the night from the tuck shop set up in the Deli Bar, with various additional entertainments available, including face painting and a photo booth. This usually has a ratio of 2 girls per boy. Tickets sell quickly for this always fun event, and can be bought at reception.
There are also plans being finalised for a penalty shoot-out competition on Thursday. Details to follow.
All proceeds from these events will go to charity, with the disco proceeds split with Parks House charity.
Darwin housemaster, Mr Pritchard, urges students to get involved and “support us in our aims to raise money” for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Remember: students can only use cash to take part.
